Elephant gets deadly pissed at fire-crackers
Sources said two male tuskers entered the Jahajghat area through Auguri Pahar last night after crossing the Brahmaputra and virtually laid siege to large areas in the garrison town of Tezpur since early this morning.
The elephant trampled to death Montu Gowala, 60, in Auguri around 7pm and damaged a few houses in the area.
A district administration official said the Jahajghat area wore the look of a ghost town this evening with panic-stricken residents switching off lights.
He said trouble started soon after the forest guards started bursting crackers to chase away the two elephants.
... "The elephants got separated and this made matter worse," the official said.
